Information

Les Grifouls Association

Le Pas De Ceilhes is the club grounds of the association Les Grifouls. Our grounds are open to members of organizations affiliated with the IFN/NFN, provided you have a valid annual sticker. You can also become a member of Les Grifouls, the association that manages Le Pas de Ceilhes, on-site.

Camping season

The campsite is open from May 15 to September 15. Reservations are recommended and can be made via lepasdeceilhes@gmail.com. The reception – the green house at the entrance of the site – is usually open during peak season from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00. If no one is there, you can ask another camper.

Wifi and 3G

  • Wifi is limited available around the reception and in the farm. Internet works via satellite bandwidth and the volume is therefore limited. Basic internet use, a short FaceTime call, and email traffic are quite possible, as well as fetching the newspaper. However, playing games or watching videos is not an option. Wifi performance decreases slightly in windy conditions.
  • In some areas, there is 3G network coverage, but often connecting is difficult. If you really want to make a call, you need to drive up the mountain. It’s a nice way to truly relax.

Accessibility

Attention!

If you want to come to the campsite, take the northern route via D93 Tournadous, and not via Ceilhes as the navigation suggests. The direct road from Ceilhes to the campsite through the valley is only suitable for 4×4 vehicles!

Auto Set your GPS or Google Maps to the nearby hamlet of Tournadous. If you are coming from Fondamente or la Bastide des Fonts/le Clapier, first drive to Tournadous; from there it is about 3 km. Take the exit at the white stone that says: St Julien / Le Pas de Ceilhes. At the fork, take the left road. This long road down the valley is also suitable for driving with a caravan.

Train In Béziers, the high-speed train from Brussels or Paris stops. From there, it’s another hour by regional train towards Millau. The nearest station is Montpaon. By car, a bit further from the campsite, lies the station Ceilhes-et-Rocozels. From this last station, it’s still an hour’s walk to the campsite: a hike along the track through the pass after which the campsite is named: Le Pas de Ceilhes. If you make an appointment on time, you can be picked up by another camper from Montpaon by car.

Groceries

  • At the campsite, it is only possible to buy gas and souvenirs; no groceries.
  • The nearest supermarket is in Fondamente (10 km), Cornus for delicious bread (15 km), and Ceilhes (18 km or 8 km by 4×4 or mountain bike over the gravel path).
  • Larger stores and weekly markets can be found in Lodève (40 km), Saint Affrique (35 km), Millau (50 km), and Montpellier (85 km).
  • Millau has the largest selection of sporting goods stores, DIY shops, Action, Gifi, and a nice sewing/embroidery shop in the northeast of the area.
  • When going shopping, it is a good habit to ask your camping neighbors if you can bring something for them from the supermarket.
  • You can withdraw cash from an ATM in Cornus (14 km).

Other practical matters

  • Between 08:00 and 22:00, driving on the premises is no longer permitted. You can park right before the barrier at the entrance during this time and walk to your camping spot.
  • To store waste without attracting foxes and voles near your tent, you will receive a trash bin at the reception. Please take your waste with you, as the garbage truck no longer collects waste on the premises. You can drop it off separately in Tournadous (3 km), so take your waste with you when you go shopping.
  • A certain level of dedication to the care and maintenance of the site and its facilities is expected from guests. There is a list in the restrooms where you can indicate when you have cleaned them.
  • There is limited electricity from solar panels in the restrooms. You can use it to charge phones and shavers, but only in moderation.
  • For your packing list: warm clothing (it can feel cold in the evenings after a day in the sun), a musical instrument, and a backup meal.
  • Dogs are only permitted on the premises at the Pré des Violettes.

Workweek

Every year, a group of volunteer handymen ensures that the facilities on the grounds are ready for summer in May. Anyone who wants to come to prune, mow, dig, bricklay, paint, carpentry, cook, or carry during that work week can sign up. It’s a delightful week to clear your mind and very enjoyable!
